About

Janna Stieglis (22) is a visual artist. Her work centers around personal fascinations, interests, and curiosity. She is particularly drawn to infrastructure, human behavior, geography, landscapes, and the sea. From these fascinations, she explores how environments are perceived, experienced, and represented. This exploration allows her to create her own visual interpretations. She utilizes a variety of materials and mediums, producing both standalone pieces and installations. At times, her works exist independently, while at other times, they contribute to a larger composition.

Her approach to creation is direct and intuitive. A hallmark of her style is a loose, raw method of working. She intentionally leaves space for chance and imperfection. Rough, unfinished, and occasionally uncomfortable elements are deliberately included, as are aspects that may be considered ‘ugly’.

Stieglis was born in Amsterdam but spent her childhood in Friesland. From 2019 to 2023, she attended Cibap, where she studied creative craftsmanship
(wood & design). Since 2023, she has been pursuing a degree in Spatial Design at HKU and is currently in her third year. In 2025, she lived in Scotland for several months, during which she completed a Fine Art minor in Dundee (September 2025 – January 2026). She is presently living and working in Amsterdam.
